One thing that can make you so successful in the process to form identity barriers is by identifying the risk of theft. Many people do not stop and really see if they can successfully identify any risk that might come about. The following are some of the warning signs that you need to keep an eye out for. You want to catch these things before it is too late. You think you may be safe now, but identity theft can strike at any time.
You should be looking at your bank account statement every month and comparing it with your receipts. This way you can start to notice if there are any transactions you do not recognize. If this becomes a frequent occurrence during the month then you need to alert your bank. They will be able to see if it is something wrong with their records. If nothing is wrong on their end then you know someone has access to the account. Cancel it immediately. You also need to be up to date on your credit report for this very reason. Your report must be as clean as possible and no bad marks should sneak onto your report without you noticing. If you do see bad marks, alert the credit bureaus and find out what happened. If these are not marks you had any part in then you must get them taken care of as soon as possible. Become very familiar with these two things, because they control so much.
If you have stopped receiving your bills or other financial documents you must take note. This does not mean you have no bills anymore, and it could just mean that they got lost. It is possible that those companies may have slipped up, but if it is happening on more then one occasion, with more then one company, you should take action. Thieves can fill out some change of address form and have everything routed to an address of their choosing. It is a way to find out all your account numbers. You are then left without the bills, and have no way of paying them.
These are just some of the ways you can identify the risk. Do not think that the risk is too small too worry about. A risk can start out small, but if the thieves get enough time, and enough of your account information, they can start to do some serious damage. By then it might be too late to start to form identity barriers. This means that you will have to start over, and risk losing everything that you have built up.
